ARC Mission Statement & History

Led by Alicia Cutaia, ARC in Movement’s mission is to bring quality, creativity, and excitement into the world of dance and circus arts, and to bring paid opportunities to artists, musicians, and tech crews. Since 2015, ARC has provided employment and instruction to artistic performers, especially helping independent artists, creating bold one of a kind shows, combining the arts of dance, music, and more athletic circus performance.

In 2014, ARC in Movement was formed by Artistic Director Alicia Cutaia to perform original works, create new and original works for others, and instruct movers of all kinds. ARC is a unique combination of circus, dance and fire performance, brought together by Cutaia’s artistry and joy of movement. ARC offers a one-of-a-kind performance experience through Cutaia’s work as an award-winning choreographer, international professional dancer, and teacher as well as her experience in the circus world as a fire dancer and aerialist.

We have had the opportunity to create performances and perform for many exceptional organizations including The Venardo’s Circus, The Circus Project, Deschutes Brewery, BodyVox Dance Company, Electric Forest Festival, Portland Parks Event, and the Portland Piano International Gala. Elizabeth Miller
General Manager and Development
arc.in.movement.elizabeth@gmail.com

Elizabeth is excited to step into the role of General Manager of ARC in Movement. Her first introduction to ARC was in 2015 when she was asked to help set up the initial ARC website and write the mission statement. She has lived in Portland, OR for the last 6 years and has worked in the nonprofit community in Portland as a Publications Manager and Fundraising/Special Events Coordinator for the last five and a half years.

Growing up, Elizabeth moved from the United States to Germany and England, taking dance and theater classes whenever she could, this provided her greater access to the realm of performance art and how it affects people. This emotional connection created through performance art grew when she spent a year in the Marshall Islands teaching English and math to the 46 children who lived on the island Wodmej. The importance of music, dance, and theater for these children and teenagers was eye opening.

On returning to New York, Elizabeth co-founded a musical theater camp for high school students. This passion in the arts and creating work for communities lead Elizabeth to get her MA in Arts Management from the University at Buffalo SUNY with a focus in theater and dance management. Elizabeth is excited to work with ARC in Movement to expand the community outreach, find new sponsors, and book performances that create art and jobs for the community.
